What is Varsha's story?

fun_headshot

Varsha is deeply passionate about science translation and health policy.

She earned her BA from Barnard College in Neuroscience and Behavior with a focus on cellular and molecular methods. Throughout her degree, she worked in an integrative neuroscience lab researching the effects of stress on neural development in mice models.

She then moved from New York to Seattle to work at the Insitute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) as a data analyst on the Network Engagement Team where she served as a technical advisor for IHME's global network of collaborators to encourage the adoption of data-driven health policies.

This prompted her to pursue her Master's in Public Administration from the Evans School at the University of Washington where she focused on decision-making and social enterprises. While in school she worked with the Project Management Team at King County helping guide a number of executive priorities forward. She put her new education and experience into practice at the Washington State Department of Health while working on the Health Equity Zone Initiative.

Throughout all her experiences Varsha has shown a commitment to fostering the community she's in. At IHME she was awarded the 2019 Community Builder of the Year award, and at the Evans School, she served as a board chair for the Network of Womxn, Evans People of Color, and Race and Equity Summit Committee.

Varsha currently lives in Seattle with her partner Mat and their cuddly, but anxious, cat Kudu. In her free time, she enjoys anime, acrylic pour painting, and exploring new restaurants and wine bars around Seattle.
